While Isaac Mizrahi admits that he often gets driven around NYC rather than jumping behind the wheel himself, Chevrolet has enlisted his design expertise to create a new collection of cars aimed to appeal to the XY chromosome set, WWD reports. In fact, General Motors even asked four women engineers for their take on it. The automobiles are inspired by the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, a midsize sedan, and launch on LivingSocial, chevymalibustyle.com, and facebook.com/IsaacMizrahi this fall.
Mizrahi told WWD, “For me, the greatest part of my job is design. I love beautiful objects and this car is beautiful. If you look at the car, there are certain angles, lines and thoughts that evoke ideas about clothes. There is this incredible blue light in the car, which is already inspiring me.”
He also recalled that Bill Blass worked on a Ford’s Lincoln Mark series in the Seventies, as well. “When I was a kid, I remember Bill Blass had an association with a car, and it was so exciting to me then,” he said in WWD. “It felt so new. This is my way of reinventing it.” Hopefully he doesn’t follow Blass’ path in other regards.
